Where Will Jay Cutler Go from Here?

Jay Cutler could be making many fans of some other lucky team smile sometime soon.

Yesterday it was reported that the Pro Bowl Quarterback of the Denver Broncos, Jay Cutler, had officially requested a trade. Today, we the people, began contemplating where he might end up if his request is honored. I’m sure there are many fans out there whose team could use a guy in Jay Cutler who played like the potential franchise-type quarterback that many analysts foresaw. The scoop is that new head coach Josh McDaniels, who was offensive coordinator for the Patriots, wanted to trade Cutler for Matt Cassel since he was familiar with his system already. This has since angered the young Cutler and he now wants to go… but where?!

To start off an easy process of elimination, every team in the AFC is out since teams don’t usually like to send star players away to in-conference franchises. And although Cassel was finally traded to another AFC team, like his former Patriots, in the Chiefs, that was more of an “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” deal.

This was the widespread thought when that deal went down, because Scott Pioli, the former general manager of the Patriots moved onto Kansas City to try and resurrect that ball club.

So the AFC is out!

In the NFC East, Dallas has Tony Romo, NY has Eli Manning, and Philadelphia has Donovan McNabb. So far, Jason Campbell of the Washington Redskins still has a lot to prove, while Cutler seems way more promising than him thus far when both their careers are compared.

In the NFC North, the Packers have Aaron Rodgers, and the Vikings made moves to throw their young QB Tarvaris Jackson into a competition with newly acquired Sage Rosenfels from Houston. I don’t think that the Lions could attract an odor, so the Bears are definitely a hot spot. They’ve had no success with Rex Grossman, and minimal with Kyle Orton.

In the NFC South, the Saints boast Drew Brees, and the Falcons have a young star in rookie of the year Matt Ryan. The Panthers would have looked to have some great trade bait with the disgruntled Julius Peppers, but now it looks like he may be a Patriot soon. However, with Jake Delhomme being their current signal caller you still can’t count them out. Then there’s the Buccaneers who got rid of veteran Jeff Garcia.

After that, in the NFC West, the Seahawks have Matt Hasselbeck who is not past his better days yet, and Kurt Warner is obviously safe as the Cardinals QB. Cross those two teams out and you have the 49ers with the disappointing results of Alex Smith’s progress, and the St. Louis Rams, who should have started thinking about dropping Marc Bulger quite some time ago.

So there you have it. The top candidates to have Jay Cutler for President!

It’s either Tampa or Jets!! Trust me on this.

I think that the Houston Texans go for Cutler. Possibly trade some picks and QB Shuab or however you spell it. He has been hurt both seasons with the team and the Texans need to score more passing touchdowns to win their division. I can just see Cutler in the Texans uniform now chucking it to Andre Johnson. I think it would be great for the division games. Some Manning, Collins, Garrard v. Cutler games 6 times a season. Primetime football for the AFC South games. Regardless of where he ends up the Colts win the super bowl anyway.

If I had went for the AFC I would have simply done what I did with the NFC… pick all the teams with no QB. I’d have gone with the Jets, who have already made many moves this offseason and like so many teams, are just a QB away. I would have thrown the Dolphins in the discussion, as Pennington is getting older and he performed awfully in the playoffs. The Bills maybe with young and unproven Edwards. Plus it’s not like there’s a lot of money invested in him cause he wasn’t a high draft pick or anything.

I would have thrown the no one in the AFC North as they have Roethlisberger, Palmer, Flacco, and Quinn. In the South I would have also said the Texans are a great fit because like you said, Schaub hasn’t panned out, and he’s only good when Johnson is healthy. Plus, I too could have seen Cutler lobbing it up to Andre Johnson. Then the Jaguars perhaps, because who knows if they’re really sold on Garrad.

Who knows, maybe the Titans could have traded Vince Young for Cutler!

Then in the West, on the Raiders need a QB. But I don’t think Al Davis would be the type of owner Cutler would want to play for. But, then again, it’s not Cutler’s decision on whether or not he gets traded.

    We’ll see!

It is possible to see a trade for Cassel for Cutler including picks! Oh my lord I will just die laughing at this moron new coach!! Good luck without Shanny Denver fans!! But really though this is coming down to the Redskins and Jets, and personally I see the Jets in the driver seats because they have more draft picks, they could offer a 3rd or a 4th round pick that the Skins could not. The Jets are more equipped to pull off this deal, The Broncos could draft a QB using either the 12 or the 17th pick they could pick up from the Jets. The Jets really seem to me to be the front runners in this trade!! JAY CUTLER diabetes and now GANGGREEN…….?

Personally If i was Bronco’s management would just fire the coach immediately, he has looked like nothing other than a moron, thus far!

So where do you feel Cutler will go?

This I feel is what the Broncos should do from here. Make a deal with the Detroit Lions. The Lions get Cutler and the Broncos get the first overall pick in the draft. Then the Broncos can pick Matt Stafford in the draft. But really in reality Cutler should stop being such a baby and man up and play for the Broncos.

umm bud your wrong the jets have no qb to give to denver for him which they want and neither does tampa bay. the only 2 teams are buffalo since they have edwards and clevland since they have anderson and quinn. He’s going to one of them, TRUST ME

  9. Mark M on April 1st, 2009 9:33 pm

they don’t need a Qb to give Denver they will use the 17th pick and maybe a 3rd and 4th round pick to aquire him, the jets could also move Thomas Jones to Denver, since they are always up for a RB. Either way the bills can not trade Edwards straight up for cutler, because they aren’t on the same level and the broncos would loose too much. The bills are not built to loose out on the 12 pick in the draft. There is just to much value they would be trading away considering they don’t NEED Cutler ! Regardless the Jets and Tampa are in need of a QB, Cutler will be traded for picks no matter what!

So is anyone here smart enough to say that the Redskins have trade leverage with Jason Campbell? Hello!

  11. Mark M on April 3rd, 2009 5:45 am

Yeah I was wrong, I really didn’t think they would let the bears walk away with cutler!

The reason I am surprised by this is the Broncos have chris simms who could have started after the broncos drafted another franchise QB this year, Throwing in Orton to me seems silly. Chris Simms is not a superstar but he could start in this league for 1 and 1/2 seasons!
