new canadiens Canadiens Set for Good Year
No team in any sport plays in a city that puts more pressure on them or subjects them to more scrutiny than the Montreal Canadiens. The fans and media the world over give this team such a hard time sometimes even when they win a game. Montreal got off to a good start but then went on to lose five in a row and you could almost hear the boos from the Moon coming out of Montreal. With that said let us give the Canadiens some credit because after losing five in a row they have bounced back to win three straight and are now back to .500. I am not here to be the fulltime defending of the Canadiens but let’s face it they are a essentially a newly constructed team that needs some time to develop and settle in. Over the course of the offseason Montreal got a new coach, new players—most notably Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta among others—and got rid of guys like Alex Kovalev and long time captain Saku Koivu which like it or not left a pretty big hole in the Montreal Canadien universe. No matter the team or the city when any hockey club gains and loses important people it’s going to have an effect on you. So as I said in the sportsroids.com Eastern Conference preview their newly acquired stars will play their roles to perfection and that’s what will help the rest of the players do the same thing and all learn how to win. They still have some issues in goal but there is plenty of time to figure that out; so please Canadiens fans give your team some time to put things together because if you wait just a little bit you’ll realize it’s going to be a very good season in Montreal.
